From 'Uthman bin 'Affan radhiallahu'anhu he said: I have heard the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi Wasallam said "Whoever builds a mosque for Allah Ta'ala (hoping for His face) then Allah will build for him a house (palace) in Paradise" (Narrated by Al-Bukhari (1/172, no. 439) and Muslim (no. 533) . Some of the scholars explained that in order to obtain this virtue there must really be a mosque built and erected, so it is not enough to just prepare land or building materials without trying to build the mosque (the book "Faidhul Qadiir" (1/84)
