What is Aqiqah? According to Islamic traditions, whenever a new baby was born, the parents/ guardians would sacrifice an animal and share the joy of having a new family member with other families, especially the underprivileged families. Is it a must to perform Aqiqah?

Which animals should be sacrificed?

Animals that are accepted to be slaughtered include goats, cows, sheep, or camels. If it is a camel, it must be aged more than six years; if it is a cow, it should be older than three years; goats should be aged more than two years. The animal must be physically fit, free from physical defects such as limping, sickness, blindness, or undernourishment.
